Woodburn Tulip Festival

The Wooden Shoe Woodburn tulip festival comes each year around the March/April time frame.  This year is no different and so i want you to be aware that it’s going on now and that you can get your camera equipment out as well.  Get trained on your new DSLR and if you are one of the first to request a camera, you can rent new camera’s to take out into the tulip field all supplied by Nikon.

2015 was my first year going to the photography workshop at the wooden shoe tulip festival

The Woodburn Tulip Festival was quite fun and informational.  My wife, Jessica went as well and she was able to learn a few things too.

Woodburn Tulip Festival Photography Workshop – April 23rd, 2016

The next few photos are taken this year (2016) and show how much growing needs to be done in the next 30 days. I couldn’t help but not post this photo of the Norwegian golf balls, since my heritage is from Norway.

As you can see…. These golf balls have an unfair advantage, they’re square and will get you that extra inch when rolling.  However, rumor has it that they don’t fly as well as the round golf balls. 🙂

To the left, you’ll find a shot that composed very well and just sort of fell in my lap.  I  believe I was using my 50mm lens on this shot.  This is a must if you’re a photographer – having a prime lens can get you some really great shots.

The colors are bright, (I edited the photo below for the best tonality that I could pull out of this photo) and the weather wasn’t bad at all.  One thing that I  was surprised to hear at the pay station to park, was that people will show up in the rain all day long.

This shouldn’t really surprise me as this is OREGON!

It also made sense to me as then there would be a new element on the flowers.

I went in the early season of the tulip…

But what I  found this year that I did not find last year was the wooden shoe.  The big wooden shoe.

I  tried to give you a bit of representation of size by including a shot with the XL, L and normal sized shoes.

Last year, I was able to take a D750 out into the field and shoot some awesome shots, however you will need to bring your own SD card to use in the camera.  If you forget to bring an SD card, they will sell you one, which is what I ended up doing.  They will probably have top rated cards in different sizes.  I got the 16GB card to add to my collection.

Last years festival was great except one thing….

Lighting.

Reason for this is simply that I was not checking what I should have been checking – the shutter speed. I don’t shoot in automatic anymore, especially since I was there to get shots in my own time and that’s how you learn is to do things until you get them right. Unfortunately, I was not learning fast enough last year.

Needless to say, I will definitely get a Nikon D750 in the near future. (UPDATE: I now have the Nikon D850)

I hope to see you there on the 23rd of April as I will be in the class as well – even though it’s a beginners level class. There will be equipment there to try out!! (due to covid, this shop is no longer happening as it has in the past.  Please check back to find out if there will be one in the coming year.
